Chronic overfishing and waste threatens the future not only of fishing communities
but supply industries that rely on healthy fisheries for their businesses to
grow.
Nowadays there is tremendous emphasis placed on fish quotas,
sustainable harvesting, overfishing, waste etc. Mustad believes: “Responsible fishing
means getting the right fish from healthy and well-managed fisheries, at the
right age, in the best condition, in the most cost-efficient manner, with the
highest degree of crew safety and least environmental waste.” What is good
for marine ecosystems is good for Mustad’s business
and fisheries must recover to provide opportunities to promote
our more selective method of fishing. Mustad recognises that
securing the future health of marine ecosystems requires
new partnerships and innovative approaches.
Mustad Longline
actively promotes internally and externally selective fisheries
through developing specialised equipment and advocating for
sustainable fisheries. Through this work we have signed a
sponsorship agreement with the Global Marine Programme of
WWF, the global conservation organisation, including actively
supporting one of their marine projects to mitigate the bycatch
of endangered marine turtles.
Additionally, we strive to reduce the possible harmful
impact of our products and services. In our effort to achieve
this we aim to follow the seven principles for environmental
efficiency in our development, production and deliveries
of the Mustad Longline products including:
- Minimize use of energy
- Minimize the use of materials in products and services
- Maximize the lifecycle of each product
- Strive to optimize the efficiency in these processes
- Minimize the spread of poisonous substances
- Promote recycling
- Maximize the use of renewable resources
