When
the first buoys and anchors are thrown overboard, the
lines are pulled from the storage magazines through the
baiting machine. The setting speed can vary between 6-10
knots (3-6 hooks per second) depending on the model of
bating machine being used and the spacing between the
hooks. The baiting machine is operated by one man, who
feeds bait fish into the baiting section.
The
rest of the baiting operation is fully automatic. The
Mustad RotoBaiter, patented baiting system, secures
accurate baiting of every single hook that passes through
the system, independent of setting speed. Take a look
at the animation for a detailed presentation of how it
works.
Mustad Mark 3 is a robust and very reliable baiting machine
equipped with Mustad’s patented Rotobaiter™ system.
Mark 3 is easy to operate and maintain. If necessary the
RotoBaiter™ can easily be replaced
without stopping the shooting process.
Mark 3 is made from acid resistant stainless steel with
an integrated waste receptacle and bait box holder. Mark
3 baits up to 4 hooks per second with precision.
Function The Baiting Machine will automatically:
Cut the bait at a preset size
Bait the hook
Set the hook and line over the stern
The whole baitfish is placed on a conveyor chain that feeds
the bait into the machine. When the hooks are pulled through
the machine, the knife is triggered and the baitpiece is
cut and the hook is double baited before it shoots over the
stern.
Proven state-of-the-art Servo Motor technology is used
to power this high-speed baiting machine.
Up to 6 hooks per second
Low maintenance cost
Stainless Steel construction
Easy troubleshooting
Quietly running Servo Motors
Few moving parts
Patented Rotobaiter Baitingsystem
Compatible for both Circle hooks and EZ baiter hooks
Simple adjustment to desired bait size

Mustad LineSetter
Mustad LineSetter offers several advantages. The catch
rate will improve because the line will follow bottom contours
more closely. A slack line will sink faster and reduce incidental
catch of seabirds. Pulling the line through the “baiter” at
a constant speed will improve baiting performance, especially
in rough weather.
The Line Setter is a compact unit, which is installed behind
the baiting machine. The line passes between two sheaves
which pull it through the “baiter” at a constant
speed. Hydraulic power is drawn from existing power supply.
The setting speed is adjustable from the baiting station.
Baited hooks are funneled to one side to prevent them going
through the sheaves, which have the added benefit of improving
crew safety.
