The Mustad Hook Separator clears hooks and lines quickly and efficiently from the main line and conveys them onto storage magazines. The hook separator operates synchronous with the line hauler and conveys the line from the hauler to the storage magazines. The main line is pulled around a pulley/sheave while the hooks are picked up by a rail that guides them onto a magazine where damaged hooks can be straightened or replaced. Hooks and lines are then conveyed onto storage magazines. See the illustration on the right.

Mustad Hook Separator SP 2000.

The SP 2000 utilizes Magnets, placed in a special designed pattern, to guide the hooks onto one of the two Hook Catcher Plates. This hook catching principle is highly efficient and has no moving parts. Maintenance is minimal. The Hook Separator is made of heavy-duty stainless steel and comes with Composite Material Sheaves. The pressure wheel is powered by a hydraulic motor and synchronized with the main hauling motor.

A new hook-guide design reduces wear on hooks and gear and ensures an efficient racking result. The Hook Separator has built-in high pressure water jets for cleaning of gear and untangling of hooks & snoods.

Function
The main function of the Hook Separator unit is to pick up the hooks and guide them onto the storage magazines. This is done automatically and consistently as the gear is hauled onboard. Secondary functions:

• as a Slack Taker in keeping even tension on the gear from the main hauler
• as a Twist Remover in untangling hooks/snoods from the main line
• as a Gear Cleaner using high-pressure water jets

The Hook Separator SP 2000 can operate efficiently at high speed and thereby allow the vessel to haul back more gear per day, which is important with regard to the working environment and increased profits.

Robust storage magazines in acid-proof steel with complete sliding rail, inspection slits and hatches for simple mounting of hooks/snoods. Robust cross-ship magazine rails and magazine trolleys with big wheels.

Takes all types of hooks and lines. Easily adapted to different hook types and sizes by adjusting the top rail.

Function
The storage magazines are situated between the hook separator and the baiting machine. There are various ways of positioning the magazines when full, for example, either longitudinally in line along the ship’s rail, or the more common solution of storing them transversely in rows.

The optimum position for the storage magazines will depend on the deck space available. The magazine racks are mounted on movable trolleys, which in turn are located in transverse tracks. This allows the magazines to be pushed to one side when full.

Mustad MagPacker - Automatic Handling and Storage of Magazines.

Hydraulically operated system for automatic handling and storage of magazines. Made of heavy-duty stainless steel. Designed to reduce manual labour and increase efficiency. Conveys the magazines to shooting and hauling position. Allows horizontal coupling of magazines. Empty magazines are conveyed to buffer storage.

Can be delivered with hydraulic LinePress to facilitate compact storage of the longline gear.
