Mechanised longlining makes great demands on the quality of fish
hooks, both in terms of durability and catch results. They are under
a heavy load and subjected to wear and tear, especially during setting
and hauling. In addition, hooks must be able to withstand sufficient
weight load before they straigthen out.
Mustad has put much effort and resources into developing products
that can meet the strictest requirements when it comes to strenght,
durability and rust resistance. Due to advanced tempering processes
and surface treatment, the hooks can take rough handling over a
long period of time.

Mustad Bending Test
As part of the quality control, all hook patterns,
swivels and lines are subjected to the Mustad Bending
Test.
In this test we measure the load in kilogrammes it takes for the hook to straighten
out, the swivel to open up or the line to break.

LONG LIFE SEA HOOKS
Due
to increased pollution, ordinary fish hooks rust
faster than ever before. To counteract this, Mustad
developed the Duratin process, which makes hooks
more rust resistant than hooks made from stainless
steel.
